Furry friends: Making friends at Haumoana Farmyard Zoo.
Animal magic at zoo
Hawke's Bay Farmyard
The Hawke's Bay Farmyard Zoo,
which was established at
Haumoana in February 2004, is
about 15 minutes' drive from
Napier and Hastings and en route
to Cape Kidnappers.
Animals range from pigs, sheep
and calves to ostriches, alpacas,
turtles, peacocks and many more.

Arataki Honey Limited
You will be in for a sweet experience when you visit
the Arataki Honey Visitor Centre in Havelock
Explore the honey bees' world, taste 10 honeys
and buy your favourite one. The distinctive Arataki
brand is sold throughout New Zealand and is
exported under the Honeyland brand.
The Arataki Honey Visitor Centre opened in
2005, and is open all year round as an interactive
facility for travellers, schools and the community.

Visit Classic Sheepskins and take part in the
only free tannery tour of its kind in New Zealand.
The tours follow the raw sheepskin step-by-
step through the whole process.

Ahuriri is a great
bit of maritime
The iron pot is typical of those used by old-time
whalers for melting down blubber -- the fat beneath
the skin of large whales.
Long strips of blubber were cut into chunks, then
into fine strips, then boiled in the tripots.
The much sought-after whale oil was cooled and
poured into casks for transportation and export.
Tripots were used at several small whaling stations
on the shores of Hawke's Bay in the early 1800s.
The Customhouse is open every Sunday (excluding
public holidays) from 11am to 4pm until April or at
other times by arrangement.
